Three Card Brag In Guy Ritchie’s Lock Stock
In Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels (1998), the game being played is not a variation of Three Card Poker, but actually a British card game called Three Card Brag.
While Three Card Poker is always played in casinos or always against the House, Three Card Brag is a skill game much like Poker that is played against other players (usually in a group of 4 to 8). While there are hints of similarity between Three Card Brag and Poker, hand rankings, betting structure and game concepts are fundamentally different. One of the biggest difference is that a player must pay wager twice the amount in order to see his opponent’s cards.
Team DP highly recommends Lock as a highly stylish British film to those who haven’t seen it yet. And John McLeod has an outstanding explanation of Three Card Brag on his website on card and tile games from all parts of the world.
